Name This Bird

“Can you name this bird”, is an activity developed in the Learning Magic Electronic Storybook template. This activity provides a look at ten unique birds, both in the form of close-up photos and as a brief description each one.

The text provides one or two facts about each bird and in some cases “word rhymes” were used to try to fix the name of the bird in the child’s mind (i.e. people might “gawk” at the “auk”.) The text can, of course, be changed or edited if you own a copy of IntelliPics Studio 3®.

The activity is being used as supplemental reading, as part of a bird study unit, and helps bring into focus the thousands of varieties of birds that exist in the world. Some are possibly recognizable such as the peacock, hummingbird or the flamingo, but others including the black vulture, american kestrel, temmick tragopan, crested screamer and emu may be new birds to your students.

Applications needed: IntelliTools Classroom Suite®, IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player®, or IntelliPics Studio 3®
Curriculum area: Language Arts and Science.
Level: Grades 3-5.
