Harbor Seal Has His Teeth Brushed

Marine Mammals is built upon the IntelliPics Studio 3® Easy Storybook template. In this activity we provide children with close up photos of six marine mammals, along with short videos of each of the animals in the water.

The template then provides the children with the opportunity to write about what they have observed. For example, we have had children compare and contrast the animals as an example. Others have done research on where the animals live and how they adapt to the various climates they are in (i.e heavy fur coats, layers of fat.) The children also get to see handlers working with an animal. The harbor seal gets his teeth brushed and the handlers explain why.

The marine mammals in the activity include the harbor seal, the northern fur seal, the walrus, the sea lion, the sea otter and the beluga whale.

Certainly this activity could lead to conversations and teaching moments regarding other marine mamals and what constitutes a mammal and specifically a marine mammal.

The underlying technology used in this activity is IntelliPics Studio 3®. The activity can be run on the IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player but IntelliPics Studio 3® will be required to make changes or additions to the activity.

Applications needed: ntelliTools Classroom Suite®, IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player®, or IntelliPics Studio 3®.
