A Stormy Day is an activity developed in the Learning Magic Electronic Book template. In this activity children are presented with five pictures/movies of a stormy day as seen through window panes, by opening the window slightly, by opening the window further or going outside, and then watching as the storm passes and rainbows appear.
The book can be used in many ways to stimulate children to write about what they see, hear, feel about what they are observing. Voice overs within the activity prompt the student through the environment and ask questions to elicit the student’s response.
Each of the three initial pages that introduce the stormy day to the child is incrementally enhanced from a sensory stand point. The first page is a picture of raindrops on a window pane. The second page is a similiar picture with an added sound effect of rolling thunder and rain, and the third page provides a movie of wind blowing through the trees, while rain falls heavily to the ground.
The fourth and fifth pages show the storm passing and rainbows appearing as the sunlight hits the moisture in the air.
