The Presidents On Mount Rushmore

The Mount Rushmore Presidents activity is built in the Learning Magic, Inc. Electronic Storybook template which includes an on-screen keyboard and an IntelliKeys Overlay to assist the writing endeavors of students.

(This activity is a follow-up activity to the comprehension activity about Mount Rushmore and the construction/history of this national monument, also available as a Goodie. Click here to access this activity. It is suggested that students do the Mount Rushmore history activity before writing about the four presidents.)

In the Mount Rushmore Presidents activity, children will be presented with two pictures or portraits of each of the four presidents that are depicted on Mount Rushmore. Their writing assignment is fundamentally one of researching each of the presidents and trying to determine why they were chosen as one of the four presidents to be honored on this national monument.

Please note that in the credits section, each of the websites listed as the sources of photos and portraits are also excellent sites for further research by your students. [Annie notes: These sites may not still be on the web, of course, so check before assigning research to students. I removed one suggested link from this description page because it seems to be gone now.]

Applications needed: IntelliTools Classroom Suite®, IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player®, or IntelliPics Studio 3®. Curriculum area: Language Arts and History.
Level: Grades 3-5
