The Swimming Hole

This original story is presented as a book with a cover and a single page of text. After the story is read, the child is then presented with five separate questions to test the child’s comprehension of the story. Questions not only test recall of the text but also inferred meaning within the story. The Swimming Hole was built in the “Text Only TOCR5Q” template from the Comprehension CD.

Children can go back and listen to the story again, and also jump from question to question as they complete the assignment. With this particular template, a child can either read the text silently or click on the text box to have it read aloud.

This format provides educators and other interested parties with the capability to have children read and/or listen to stories and then be able to assess a child’s reading and listening comprehension. As the questions are answered, we are tracking and capturing all of their responses and the activity will both grade and provide appropriate reporting using the IntelliPics Studio 3® reporting capabilities. (Data recording is not available using the player.)

Applications needed: IntelliTools Classroom Suite®, IntelliTools Classroom Suite Player®, or IntelliPics Studio 3®
Curriculum area: Language Arts and Life Skills.
